Lieke Vernooij

My name is Lieke Vernooy and I am studying product design at The Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. I was raised at a farm, where I was always surrounded by nature and this shows in the shape language of my work.

Nature is unpredictable, this unpredictable quality of nature I try to find in materials. I see materials as my colleagues and together we define the shape of the object.

I see beauty in what ‘we’ define as ugly and try to find out where the border lays between these two. I ask myself why most of the objects we use are so static and lifeless. Why don’t we let ourselves be more inspired by nature since that’s were it all started.
